Embracing SAFY’s Culture of Growth and Development
We are thrilled to announce a significant leadership transition at Lima Behavioral Health (LBH). Michelle Stockwell has taken on the role of Treatment Director as Judy Lester transitioned to the position of Clinical Development Specialist for Ohio earlier this month. Michelle's journey with SAFY and LBH has been marked by dedication, growth, and an unwavering commitment to positively impacting the lives of families in Lima, Ohio, and the surrounding community.
A Remarkable SAFY Journey
Michelle's journey within SAFY is a testament to her dedication and love for the organization. She began as an intern at SAFY LBH in 2012 and 2013 and began her career with LBH as a therapist. Her passion for the work led to a promotion to Assistant Treatment Director (ATD) within six months. During her four years in this role, she was integral in establishing the SAFY Youth Drop-In Center in Lima. Although Michelle briefly ventured into integrated healthcare, her heart remained with SAFY. She returned to provide PRN psychotherapy services and later advanced to full-time PRN work. Her dedication to the SAFY mission and her commitment to growth eventually led to her current role as Treatment Director at LBH.
Michelle brings a wealth of education and experience to her new role. She holds a Bachelor of Arts and a Master of Social Work from Ohio State University. Notably, Michelle has acquired certifications in group therapy, trauma therapy, and is currently working towards a Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) certification—an affirmation of her commitment to lifelong learning.
Michelle's primary mentor and supervisor throughout her SAFY journey has been Judy Lester. Judy's guidance and expertise have contributed significantly to Michelle's clinical skills and development. Under Judy's tutelage, Michelle learned the importance of owning her own authority in a supervisory role and identified areas for growth and strengths. As Judy transitions to her new role, she continues to support Michelle, ensuring a seamless transition.
Facing Future Challenges with Resolve and Creativity
LBH is embarking on a new program called "Empowering Families: Intensive Family Services," to be implemented in the coming weeks. Challenges are expected with any new program, and Michelle is well-prepared to navigate them. She is committed to leveraging SAFY's resources and support to ensure the program's success and positively impact families in the community.
In her new role, Michelle is enthusiastic about teaching and mentoring others. She is passionate about guiding social workers and staff to grow in their careers and make a meaningful difference in the lives of families. Her commitment to upholding SAFY's values and providing high-quality services is unwavering.
Michelle's creative spirit shines through in her approach to her new position. She sees the opportunity to use her creativity to continue to develop a dynamic team, positively impact families, and provide sustainability to LBH.
A Glimpse into Michelle's Personal Life
Michelle's roots run deep in Lima, Ohio, where she grew up and built her life. Her connection to the community is profound, evident in her three children and five grandchildren, who call Lima home. As her youngest child approaches adulthood, Michelle shares the bittersweet experience of witnessing her last child transition into this new phase of life.
In the spirit of Child Welfare Workforce Development Month's theme, Take a Moment, Michelle emphasizes the importance of self-care. She often takes weekends away to decompress and recharge, with camping trips and the outdoors being her favorite escapes.
As we welcome Michelle Stockwell into her new role as Treatment Director at Lima Behavioral Health, we celebrate her dedication to SAFY and her unwavering commitment to the well-being of the families we serve. Her journey from intern to leader is an inspiring example of growth, perseverance, and the values that define SAFY. Michelle says, “SAFY has always been home to me and such an amazing, supportive environment. I love the work/life balance I have always been provided at this agency. I can’t imagine working anywhere else.” Please join us in congratulating Michelle and supporting her in her new role. We look forward to the positive impact she will continue to make here at SAFY and in the Lima community.
